Independent retailers are the backbone of the Canadian economy and our local communities.
As a group, we strive to strengthen communities in which we work through philanthropic endeavors such as charitable support. We have collectively supported the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation and charities supporting future generations, such as Kids Help Phone and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
In addition, we regularly support our own with donations to charities chosen by them, in their times of need.
We encourage sustainable practices within our organization and through collaborative action with our business partners.
Waste diversion – recycling
We are committed to promoting responsible recycling – keeping appliances, electronics, computers, and photography equipment out of landfills.
Our Photography Members team up with vendor partners to hold “trade-in” events promoting sustainability to re-use product that has not yet reached its end of life.
We support Appliance retailers by partnering with a trade group in Québec to provide a full recycling program for major appliances, as stricter regulations come into effect.
And, we support green initiatives such as blue box recycling programs.
We are moving our operational practices to digital platforms, improving efficiencies and supporting a paperless environment.
We strive to reduce our carbon footprint through increased use of online meeting solutions in place of vehicle and air travel, whenever possible.
Supply Chain: Cantrex works with its vendor partners on finding ways to reduce the number of delivery trucks on the road. We encourage them to bundle loads on a truck and drop-ship to different retailers within a trading area.

Upholding the highest standards of ethics and business conduct and complying with all laws and regulations is crucial to preserving our most priceless asset – our reputation – and is vital to our success.
Our Code of Business Ethics is the foundation of our core values: respect, service excellence, professionalism, engagement and innovation, and it reinforces our organization’s culture to inspire trust. It sets the framework for a fair workplace for our employees and establishes the conduct expected of them when interacting with each other, our Members, our vendors and in the communities where we live and work.
Aligned with our Code of Business Ethics, our detailed Universal Terms and Conditions (UTC) with vendors, and our Commercial Agreements with retailers, ensures the confidentiality of information.
DATA SECURITY AND PRIVACY
Data Security and Privacy are of paramount importance across our organization. Our systems are closely monitored and controlled by our Information Technology department and a multi-step process is in place for system accesses.
To ensure compliance with all federal and provincial laws and regulations, audits on sales tax, our accounting, income tax and pension fund are conducted by both the government and independent external auditors. Audits serve to maintain a clean record of no discrepancies or penalties.
